Buku-Larrnggay means the feeling of warmth on your face as it is struck by the first rays of the sun - indicating that we are in the most easterly place in the Top End of Australia - Miwatj or the Sunrise country. Mulka is a sacred but public ceremony. It also means to hold or protect, to nurture.
 
Buku-Larrnggay Mulka Centre (est 1975) has a long and proud history as one of Australia's premier art centres and Indigenous culture strongholds. We are a community owned and operated business with its foundations in the Aboriginal community of Yirrkala. The artists of the Centre have established a worldwide reputation for excellence with bark paintings, weaving, sculpture and memorial poles. They regularly win many of Australia's major Indigenous art prizes. It is also the internationally acknowledged home of the yidaki- the traditional didjeridu.
