Hermannsburg Potters
Concentration, humour, expertise and dedication pervades the air when walking into the Hermannsburg Potters' arena.
Studiously brought into being come brightly coloured birds and animals, historic buildings and events, missionary tales and desert landscapes. Born onto lidded bulbous terracotta vessels these creations are carefully packed for select exhibitions. The famous Arrente artist Albert Namitjira who's watercolour paintings of this country stirred the nation from the 1930's, is buried with a Hermannsburg Potters terracotta headstone, thanks to his grand daughter Elaine, who led the potters in 1994 to create a mural of three of his favourite sites nearby, along the MacDonnell Range.
